Chief Ron Evans has been in various leadership positions continuously since 1980 when he was elected the youngest Councillor in the history of Norway House. His range of experience includes both public and private sector First Nation organizations in Norway House as well as Manitoba and Canada.

To this day, the Crown frequently requests Chief Evans’ advice and counsel. Ministers in both provincial government and federal government often request his involvement in addressing evolving, national First Nation issues in areas such as security, health, education, justice, economic development, mining, fisheries, First Nation governance and current social issues, such as the solution to the large number of murdered and missing aboriginal women.

Awards

As a result of his leadership, Ron Evans has received numerous awards and certificates of recognition, including:

Member of the Order of the Buffalo Hunt, Provost Level, In Recognition of “Contributions to the aboriginal community of Manitoba”, presented by the Premier of Manitoba

Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the ascension of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II to the throne. (Given to those who have made outstanding and exemplary contributions to their communities or to Canada as a whole)

Honouring Heroes Award presented for “Dedication and leadership to combating trafficking in persons”

“Certificate of Appreciation” from “D” Division, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and also from Winnipeg Police Services

He has served as Senior Adviser both to the Grand Chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs as well as to a number of individual chiefs.
